Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai is the Chief of Army Staff who was brought in by the new Buhari Government with the mandate to end insurgency in the north-east by the end of December 2015.
Buratai promised the Nigerian army is ready to outsmart the sect on any strategy they may l want to employ.
The army general made this statement while laying the foundation stone for the new Brigade headquarters complex at the 2 Brigade in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital last Saturday.
He said the war in the north-east was critical as he commended the soldiers for their gallantry and commitments towards the battle against the terrorists.
“The North-East operation is critical at this stage. The terrorists have been defeated. These criminals may rear their ugly heads through other means. We will continue to maintain vigilance. He said.
Tukur explained that the federal government will not relax over ensuring adequate welfare of the military staff is taken carefully timely.
He express satisfaction with the dedication and commitment of the personnel of the 2 Brigade command and stated that the Nigerian army has always been a source of commendation across the globe for discipline and professionalism.
Buratai urged the Soldiers to keep up the good work of maintaining high level of discipline they are known for as he encouraged the brigade to continue its great feat of fighting oil theft in the Niger Delta Region.
Also, the Army Chief said the government is willing to tackle the medical problems and the accommodation shortage facing all barracks across the country.
Recall that, shortly after the Minister of Information made similar assertion about the military’s success in defeating the Boko haram last December, there was devastating fresh attacks in Maiduguri by the insurgents that claimed more than 40 lives.
Based on that development, some Nigerians have reacted to this news by saying they do not want such public remarks again until the army is very sure the Boko Haram will not reply with violence as it happened a few weeks ago.
Besides the inspection of five-bedroom block project being carried out by his office, Buratai also interacted with the soldier’s wives in the barrack assuring them of Government’s commitment towards attending to their plight and welfare.
