Nasarawa state police command has arrested two persons in connections with a mob action that led to the death of a soldier, Lance Cpl. Ayuba Ali, on Monday, August 14, in Akwanga, Nasarawa state, NAN reports. The command’s spokesman, DSP Kennedy Idirisu, confirmed the arrest to the media organization on Monday in Lafia.
Idirisu said that available information revealed the victim, who was on pass from Maiduguri, allegedly hit a street hawker at Agwan Affi area of the town while riding on a motorbike.
According to him, the victim who was in mufti, tried to pacify the hawker and an altercation ensued resulting in irate youths beating him to coma. Idirisu said the soldier later died at the hospital, while investigations have begun to arrest all the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
Meanwhile, Mr. John Abimiku, an eye witness stated that the area has been deserted for fear of the unknown. He stated: “As I speak with you now, about four military trucks are stationed in the area and soldiers are picking up any youth on sight.”
He claimed that the two persons arrested by the police were amongst those who took the soldier to the hospital after the mob action.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that an angry mob shot a police officer to death in the Agege area of Lagos.
The mob shot dead Corporal Sunday David, after he allegedly killed two persons in the area. David, who was not in his police uniform was shot as he tried to flee after the act.
But come to think of it, for the mob to kill a soldier just because he hit someone is unfair. Jungle justice is totally wrong. No matter what happens, soldiers are humans as well. No has the right to kill a soldier just like the soldiers have no right to kill anyone except in an authorized war.
