Supreme Court of Nigeria
has declared Senator Ahmed Makarfi the authentic Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The apex court announced the verdict today after a prolonged legal tussle between the two contenders, Ali Modu Sheriff , former Governor of Borno State and Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, a battle many PDP caucus members said was unnecessary in the first instance.

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to forward the name of  Walter Onnoghen, acting chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) to senate for confirmation.

In a letter seen by TheCable, Buhari said the name should be transmitted to the upper legislative chamber before February 10 when Onnoghen’s tenure in acting capacity would elapse.

Today, November 8,  the Supreme Court upheld  the election of the sitting governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson. The seven-memeber team of judges let by Justice Tanko Muhammad gave the ruling following  an appeal brought to it by the All Progressive Congress(APC)  who happened to be the party’s  Governorship candidate in the 2015 election in the state, Timipre Sylva. The panel members said they will deliver a detailed judgement document on 18th November.

Senate President  saraki fails at the supreme court

The Supreme Court has rejected appeal by  Senator Saraki to stop his trial on corruption allegations.

The Senate President Bukola  is facing a 13-count charge of fraud allegedly declared falsely on the asset declaration form.
The Code of Conduct Bureau charged him for committing offence of maintaining foreign account during his time as the governor of Kwara State.

supreme court upholds akwa ibom governorship election victory

Supreme court has done it again by upholding the election of Emmanuel Udom of PDP as duly elected Governor of Akwa Ibom state .

In the ruling , the court held that Emmanuel won the total lawful votes cast, setting aside the earlier verdicts of the two lower courts.

The court as well upheld the Governor Udom’s earlier Appeal challenging the cancellation of results in 13 LGAs of Akwa Ibom State.
